Meet the Chef

Chef Jodrick I. Ujaque, born October 30th in Mayaguez Puerto Rico, was born into a family very familiar with food. Their family business, "Carniceria Ujaque," a butcher shop located in "La Plaza del Mercado" in their hometown was established in 1946. Jodrick came into industry on his own accord by spending a few years of his youth in a hotel southwest of the island. However, it wasn't until a he came across a restaurant in Orlando FL, that changed the way he saw food forever.

Chef Jodrick joined Cafe Tu Tu Tango in 2001 and that inspired him to pursuit a career in culinary arts. This was a place with art, food, and creativity, where individuality was embraced. With his degree in hand he returned to the same place that started his original passion for food. As a cook he had the chance to assist the Chefs with the “additions” where the Chef displayed their talents.  He presented Asian Lime Ribs to the Orlando crowd which were a total hit. From the time spent in Orlando he worked his way up from a cook to a supervisor, to a Sous Chef in a place with small room with growth.

This venture brought him to Miami FL, where Chef Jodrick worked as a Sous Chef for Cafe Tu Tu Tangos in Coconut Grove where he had full access to the creative development necessary for a very diverse Miami crowd. Stepping out of his comfort zone, he worked for Dolores but you can call me Lolita as a food consultant and as the Executive Chef for their original menu. After Dolores he decided to go back to his roots as a “hardcore cook” and he began working for a well-recognized restaurant in Coral Gables, Ortanique at the Mile (Chef Cindy Hutson), and the River Oyster Bar (Chef David Baraka) in Brickell.

In September 2011 Chef Jodrick took a chance and opened Chefs on the Run Assorted Cuisine in Homestead, FL where his restaurant offers a unique style of bold, Caribbean food, healthy, Asian fusion, and new American. Currently ranked as the #1 restaurant in Homestead FL, Chefs on the Run was named “The Best Burger in Town” at the Burger Brawl on Krome Avenue in November 2013 and 2014.

On January 24, 2013 Chef Jodrick was featured on a local news network on the segment “Bites with Belkys” where he presented the Kan Kan Pork Chop from Chefs on the Run, the only restaurant in the US to offer this Puerto Rican rarity. Chef Jodrick was featured on the Spanish show “Delicioso” with Ingrid Hoffman. He was the  first local chef to be invited to cook at Paradise Farm’s “Dinner in Paradise” in its 30-year history.

Chef Jodrick’s Chefs on the Run Assorted Cuisine was voted as the “Best Bites at the Beach” winner at the Food Network & Cooking Channel, SoBe WFF both in 2014 and 2015.
